Susan Poser, who is currently the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Illinois has been chosen by the Hofstra University Board of Trustees to steer the school’s ship as its next president, effective on Aug. 1, 2021.

“It is a great honor to be named the ninth President of Hofstra University," Poser said following her appointment. "Over the past two decades, Hofstra has benefited from outstanding presidential, board, faculty and alumni leadership, creating an excellent platform to meet the challenges of higher education in the post-pandemic world.”

At the University of Illinois, Poser oversaw a Carnegie Research One university with sixteen colleges, including seven health sciences colleges, and over 35,000 students.

The Board of Trustees noted that 10 college deans and the University librarian report directly to her, and her office oversees things such as: enrollment management, diversity, faculty affairs, global engagement, undergraduate affairs, and academic programs assessment for each of the 16 colleges.

“In Dr. Poser, we have found a higher education leader of exceptional experience, a collaborative and visionary person, and a scholar of great depth and intellect,” Trustee Chair Donald Schaeffer said. “Dr. Poser's leadership skills make her well prepared to succeed President Stuart Rabinowitz.”

According to the Board, “Poser's work supporting a data-driven student success initiative using innovative approaches has led to increases in student retention and graduation rates.”

“Her experience and ability will serve Hofstra University exceptionally well,” Rabinowitz stated.

“I have had the privilege to work with the Hofstra University community – students, faculty, administration and staff, families, alumni and community – for many years, and know that under her leadership, Hofstra University will flourish for years to come.”
